The past 10 months have been busy for Taylor Bucklin. Last fall the goalkeeper set a Greenwich High School girls soccer record by allowing just nine goals all season, and posted a shutout over Westhill in the FCIAC championship game.
Then Bucklin, nominated as a finalist for the U.S. Youth Soccer Top 10 Saves contest, won the award for a stop she made playing for the CFC United U16 team.
Bucklin said she will hone her skills by working out at BlueStreak Sports Training in Stamford and with a private goalkeeping coach.

Charles Sliter is in his first season as head coach, having been the assistant coach the past two seasons. He welcomes back core members of both the defense and offense, with an especially warm welcome for senior goalie Rachel Vallarelli. She represented Hudson Valley in the Empire State Games, and has made the U.S. U-19 training team. Vallarelli has already signed a letter of intent to play at UMass next season.
Super Sophs Sparq Scores and Rankings
How Do You Rate?
The SPARQ Lacrosse Rating is an index of athleticism calculated from the results on a battery of four field tests of athletic performance: vert ical jump, combined with body weight to calculate peak leg power; 20-yard dash, for linear acceleration; 30-yard shuttle, for agility; and rotat ional Power Bal l, for upper-body power.
Each Rating provides a window into the athlete’s capacities to meet the physical demands of ‘the fastest game on two feet’. The SPARQ Rating is an objective tool that should be used to inform an athlete’s goal setting for training and to measure the progress of his physical development.
Con Ed Award: Fox Lane's Lindsay Toppe
Fox Lane's Lindsay Toppe sits in her ninth-period class with jitters every gameday. The final school bell rings and she heads home to a hot plate of spaghetti to fuel her fire within that strikes fear in other teams. When she's done eating, she heads back to school to get psyched up with her girls lacrosse teammates over hip-hop heavy beats in the locker room. Her team is ready. She's ready. That's bad news for the day's adversary.

Redd wants to remain a King on the field
It was 11 years ago when Mike Redd convinced Danny Gouin, then an assistant coach for the King football team, to come watch his younger brother Silas play in a Pop Warner game.
"He always looked head and shoulders above everybody else," Gouin recalled. "The minute he got the ball, or was on defense, you knew who he was."

Jamie Lundmark, Calgary Flames
"I had skated on an [Athletic Republic] treadmill in Edmonton before I started working out with BlueStreak. But BlueStreak's whole program is so much more complete. I'm definitely a stronger skater and have more leg power as a result of my training at BlueStreak. The biggest improvement for me is the first two to three strides on the ice. It's like having an extra gear I can kick into."
"What the Acceleration program will do is make sure that a person has adequately laid the proper building blocks for becoming as fast and explosive and having as much endurance as possible. The programs help to make sure people are performing correctly in terms of physiological attributes, and so regardless of what sport you’re in, it’s good."
Don Lucia, Head Coach, Univ. of Minnesota Hockey
"The Skating Treadmill is great for developing and maintaining a longer, more powerful and explosive skating stride for hockey players of all ages. We have installed the [Athletic Republic] Skating Treadmill in our training room at Mariucci Arena."
Shaun Alexander, Seattle Seahawks
"The [Athletic Republic] program gave me a great edge. It moved everything forward: my athleticism, competition, and football skills. It was the answer I was looking for. My goal was to play in the NFL and the Acceleration program helped me reach it."
David Tanabe, Phoenix Coyotes
"I have trained with Acceleration for several years now and it is a great way to work on your skating form while gaining strength and endurance."
Heather Mitts, Professional Soccer Player
"The [Acceleration] Program can form a good athlete into a great athlete. It teaches you to use your abilities to the max. Someone who is already fast, can be a few steps faster."
Ryan Potulny, Philadelphia Flyers
"I used the Acceleration program in High School and during my college career at the University of Minnesota. The skating treadmill kept me in skating shape during injuries and played a big part in getting me to the NHL."
Ogonna Nnamani, Stanford Volleyball
"As an athlete, you need to continue to get better and condition your body to compete at the highest levels and the Acceleration Programs have helped me do that."
Filip Kuba, Minnesota Wild
"I’ve used the [Athletic Republic] treadmill for a year. I like the concept of seeing yourself skate slow or at full speed and forcing yourself to correct mistakes. It is a great way to train."
Darin Erstad, Anaheim Angels
"I would definitely recommend it! People are given natural abilities that you can use only so much; Athletic Republic really helps you develop those talents to a greater level. It's had great results for me, and I really believe that it helps your physical and mental state. It's amazing what it does! It made me a better athlete!"
